Joseph Phelps wina

Established in 1973 when Joseph Phelps acquired the Connolly Cattle Ranch in Napa Valley, the company has gone from strength to strength ever since that day. In that first year, Joe started to plant vines on his 600 acres and also began building a winery. The first harvest in 1973 produced Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Pinot Noir which were crushed for the one and only time in nearby wineries due to the fact that the following year their own winery was finished. The first grapes it crushed were the Cabernet Sauvignon which created the first Insignia, and also the first batch of Syrah. Forty years on, Insignia, their flagship wine, is known around the world for being one of the world's greats. In the 37 vintages to date, 31 have rated 90 points or higher in tastings with 3 of those awarded the perfect score of 100 by the wine guru that is Robert Parker. Insignia was also awarded Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator for its 2002 vintage.

The whole philosophy around Joseph Phelps is one of innovation, progress and risk taking. The results are that there have been some extraordinary wines come out of Napa Valley, not just from Joseph Phelps, but also from others who have learned from a Master.
