    Marsannay, znane wśród znawców Burgundii ze swojej wyjątkowej wartości czerwonych win, jest w większości zamieszkane przez butikowe rodzinne domeny, takie jak ta, która jest własnością Audoinów od pięciu pokoleń. Charles Audoin odmienił losy posiadłości w latach 70-tych, kiedy zaczął butelkować rodzinne wina zamiast sprzedawać je lokalnym kupcom. Powiększył również posiadłość z 2,5 hektara do 14 hektarów winorośli w większości najlepszych crus apelacji.

    Clos du Roy jest cenioną działką dla Pinot Noir dzięki dobrze przepuszczalnym piaszczystym i gliniastym glebom, które zazwyczaj produkują eleganckie i wyrafinowane czerwienie, takie jak ta butelka.
