Krauthaker wina

The Krauthaker winery is located in Kutjevo, the winegrowing region on the southern slopes of the mountain of Krndija in Croatia. The wine cellars were originally built by theCistercians (a religious order of monks and nuns) in 1232 and there still remains some parts of the cellar in the original form, with the addition of a large manor house nearby the underground corridors of the cellars. The district of Kutjevo is famous for its wine production, and the Kutjevo d.d. is considered to be the largest exporter of wine in all of Croatia. The winery was founded by Vlado Krauthaker, who is an oenologist and has a BE in agronomy. The winery started producing wine with just 1 hectare, but in 2010, had already grown in size to include 32 hectares of vineyards. There is another 68 hectares of vineyards that the winery manages in cooperation with third-party owners.

There are a total of 38 different grapes varieties that Krauthaker grows in their vineyards. The location of the vineyards, on the slopes just south of mountKrndija,exposesthem to an abundance ofsunlight year round. In addition, the vineyards are south-facing, providing projection from the northern winds. Krauthaker has been involved in sustainable practices from the start and employs environmentally-friendly winemaking techniques. The climate where the winery is located does not receive much rainfall, making it a horticultural challenge. However, the sandy soils atop sedimentary rocks provides a warm foundation for the grapes during their vegetation period.During the London Wine Fair, the winery was the recipient of two silver medals and one bronze medal that the 2010 Wine World Awards (hosted by Decanter magazine).
